Full show notes and the podcast audio recording are at selfpublishingpodcast.com We stream our recording sessions live at roughly at 3pm Eastern time on Tuesdays, but we're hardly professional enough to keep that schedule perfectly. You can subscribe to the Self Publishing Podcast in iTunes and the other big podcast directories. Please leave us a review or a comment in iTunes if you enjoy the show! *** Lots to offer in this episode... check it out. We're live-streaming video! We started this episode by announcing that we were, for the first time, streaming the video feed of the Google Hangout we were using to record the podcast. Sean, Dave and I have always recorded our podcasts while also using video so that we could catch each other's visual cues (like Dave mooning his webcam), but from here on out we'll also broadcast that video. You can visit and/or subscribe to our Self Publishing Podcast YouTube channel, or you can watch the archived video of this week's episode directly. NOTE: Our intention is to record EVERY Tuesday at 3pm Eastern US time and to broadcast/stream our video in this same way, but we suck at coordination of such things and will certainly not adhere to that schedule exactly. But in general, if you want a laugh, try checking our YouTube channel at 3pm on Tuesdays. Video production provided by Your Creative People, Greenville, SC http www.facebook.com Synopsis: Devious Duke Frederick has usurped the kingdom of his older brother, Duke Senior, whose daughter Rosalind remains at court as the confidante of Frederick's only child, Celia. After a wrestling match in which a dashing newcomer defeats the local favorite, the victor, Orlando de Bois, falls head-over-heels for Rosalind. Workshoppers are treated to a minimum of ten hours of instruction by advanced writers in their fields who can help not only to hone their craft but help discuss where to publish it. Each workshop also includes an element of incorporated learning, where attendees are taught a skill outside of the literary arts -- including pickling, beer-making, crochet, baking, archery, etc. These skills help to broaden the experiences and vocabulary of the writer in order to keep the writing fresh and engaged with the outside world.

Source: YouTube

As part of Sundress Publications, the Weekend Workshops are monthly creative writing workshops focused on growing the literary arts in Eastern Tennessee. Workshoppers are treated to a minimum of ten hours of instruction by advanced writers in their fields who can help not only to hone their craft but help discuss where to publish it. Each workshop also includes an element of incorporated learning, where attendees are taught a skill outside of the literary arts — including pickling, beer-making, crochet, baking, archery, etc. These skills help to broaden the experiences and vocabulary of the writer in order to keep the writing fresh and engaged with the outside world.

Since downsizing his life, he's begun writing fiction from home (in addition to a teaching gig) so for a bit more privacy, this year he decided to single-handedly convert the family's unused garage into his off-grid writing retreat. Crafting it mostly out of repurposed materials, he decided to heat it using a home-made, recycled can solar panel. After collecting 275 cans (soda, juice, mineral water and beer), he began to drill holes into the ends, glue them together and fit them into a box crafted from plywood and 2 by 4's. Adding a bit of black spray paint and some plexiglass, he created his home-made solar panel. He salvaged a couple of fans from an old computer to create a system for pushing cold air into the solar panel and pushing the hot air out and into his office. In this video, Mary Rowan used her iphone to film her husband's month-long process building a solar heater with recycled cans. Granted Seattle may not be the ideal spot for solar, but Peter says that it seems to heat up the space by about 5 or 6 degrees even on a "crummy day" and when the sun is out it can provide too much heat.
